Baćina is a picturesque place situated 7 km to the west of Ploče. It has a lush vegetation with forests of poplar, pine, fir and macchia. The ancient finds in the area include the early Christian church of St Andrew (6th century) at Sladinac, with a collection of tombstones (“stećci“). But the most prominent feature of Baćina are its lakes. These are 7 small lakes of irregular shape spreading across the area of 138 ha. The lakes are chryptodepressions containing fresh water, but some are also connected to the sea. They are 3 to 45 m deep. Five of the lakes are connected by a 15km cycling path ideal for exploring the beauties of the area on foot or by bike. The wildlife can also be observed by photo-safari, or, for those seeking adventure, by paddling on a surfboard accompanied by a professional local guide. Each year on the 5th of August there is a traditional festivity of Fishermen's night, featuring traditional dishes and wines and Dalmatian song.
